Aluminum Shroud/ Dual Electric Fan Assembly 18 1/4 x 28 2060 CFM with Spal Fans

With the mounting flanges on the top and bottom the total width is 28" and the overall height is 18 ¼”. The face side of the shroud is 17 1/4" tall. The mounting flanges are about ½” wide each. It can be mounted either vertically or horizontally but is configured more for a crossflow style radiator. The shroud is ¾” deep. Height at the fan motors is 3” which includes the shroud and fans combined.  The fans are made by SPAL and are 12” diameter. The total CFM rating is 2060 CFM. Total amperage draw is 18 amps. These are standard duty fans and are sufficient for most stock to intermediate applications. This assembly is also available with high performance high CFM fans.  It has louvers stamped into the corners of the shroud to allow air to flow through the shroud when at high speed.

An electric cooling fan or fans mounted on a fan shroud can solve multiple problems on a classic car or hot rod. An electric fan by itself will only pull air through the circle of the fan but if it is mounted on a shroud it will pull air through the entire surface of the radiator that is covered by the shroud. If water pump to radiator clearance is a problem, two fans on either side of the water pump pulley can be used to cool the engine properly.

Electric fans can be controlled in a number of ways. We always recommend a relay type set-up to handle the high amperage that most electric fans draw. The relay can then be grounded by a coolant temperature switch mounted in the intake manifold or cylinder head, a toggle switch, an A/C pressure switch or a computer signal. You need to be sure that the relay is rated to handle the amperage draw of the fan(s) you are using. When running dual fans it is recommended that dual relays are used. Both relays and fans can be controlled by the same signal method.

  Electric cooling fans are made by many different companies and all carry a CFM (Cubic Feet Minute) rating. Some less reputable companies will make up inflated CFM numbers just to sell their product. Some companies boast a high CFM airflow but say the fan only draws 15 amps. A high performance fan that pulls a lot of air will draw at least 20 to 25 amps. We sell primarily top quality electric cooling fans such as Flex-A-Lite and SPAL. These are two of the most reputable fan manufacturers on the market. Dont be fooled by no-name brands with unbelievable CFM claims.
